With this 19th edition of Festi-Jazz, we knew we were raising the bar even higher. The number of participants remained steady, totaling 55 in the end. Including the 8 instructors—assisted by a pianist to accompany the vocal class—the village welcomed 64 musicians. Between the fifteen or so workshop participants staying with local families, the “locals” returning to their homes in Grasse, and those who rented a vacation rental, everyone found their place to fully immerse themselves in the masterclass.
Participants know exactly what they’re getting into, literally rushing to sign up as soon as registration opens. The waiting list fills up quickly, leaving little hope for those who come later.
The festival’s popularity shows no signs of waning; the local press reports record attendance this year at the various events on offer, from the jam sessions on Monday and Tuesday, to the “Masters” concert on Wednesday, the Friday jazz happy hour, and the closing concert on Saturday.
